researchAmericans Share Views on Democracy Under TrumpA major study looked at what Americans think about democracy during Trump's presidency. Researchers from More in Common surveyed over 2,000 adults and talked with 200 more people. They found that most Americans, including Republicans and Democrats, agree that democracy is important. Seven out of ten people say the President should always follow the Constitution. However, people disagree strongly about whether Trump's actions help or hurt democracy. Most Republicans think Trump is fighting corruption and serving the public good. Most Democrats worry that Trump wants to become a dictator and threatens democratic rules. The study shows Americans share the same basic values about democracy but see Trump's presidency very differently. While both sides want constitutional government, they disagree about who is protecting or threatening American democracy.
