Women Work with Police and Military to Build Peace and Stop Violence
This report shows how women peacebuilders work with security forces like police and military to prevent violence and build trust in communities. In March 2024, the International Civil Society Action Network (ICAN) brought together women peace workers and security officials at the United Nations for the first time. They discussed three main areas: stopping violent extremism, reforming security forces, and preventing election violence. The report shares their conversations and gives practical ideas for how these two groups can work better together. Women peacebuilders often do invisible but important work to make security forces better and reduce violence in their communities. The Women, Peace and Security agenda helps women connect with security officials and build trust. This partnership is changing how security works at the local level and helping create safer communities. The report includes recommendations for how to continue this important collaboration between women peace workers and security forces around the world.
